Description

WIK, an education provider in Dadaab refugee camp, developed a comprehensive approach to raising community awareness on PSEA issues. The organization delivered a training on PSEA to participants drawn from partner organizations in Dabaad. A community facilitator’s guide was developed and distributed to over 100 community and religious leaders, youth, persons with disabilities and children. In addition, WIK produced and aired, through radio Gargar, messaging in both Somali and Kiswahili and produced 16 radio shows to address knowledge gaps on SEA prevention and response, including reporting channels. Two videos were also developed and shared through the WIK website and social media platforms. Flyers with PSEA messaging were also produced, translated into Somali, and distributed to youth, community leaders and persons with disabilities.

Resources available include:

  • a community dialogue guide in English, Arabic, Kiswahili and Somali which aims to engage participants through dialogue, exercises or focus group discussions to understand what constitutes Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), risks involved, how to prevent and respond to incidents and concerns of SEA within the community.
  • 10 quote cards in English which express statements given by the UN Secretary-General, NGO staff, camp leaders and youth leaders.
  •  radio shows in English and Somali to raise awareness on PSEA. Scripts in English and Somali.
  • radio spots in English, Kiswahili and Somali to raise awareness on PSEA and on the rules of conduct of humanitarian workers, targeting in particular children and humanitarian workers. Scripts available in  English and Somali.
  • a video in English to raise awareness on PSEA and to empower the community, targeting affected communities. The individual parts of the video are available in the video kit.
