A Human Rights Based Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration

The issue of international migration requires the urgent attention of the UN human rights system. The scale of human suffering was one of the principal factors leading to the 19 September 2016 Summit on large movements of refugees and migrants, to the commitment of all 193 Member States to protect the human rights of refugees and migrants — pursuant to their international law obligations — and to develop a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants.
