Armed Conflict and Covid-19: A double crisis for displaced civilians
Wednesday 18 June 11.00-12.00 EST
As Covid-19 spreads, intensified conflict persists. This poses both grave risks to already vulnerable populations living in deteriorating conditions and unique challenges to humanitarian organizations, such as access to those in need. This double crisis has forced people to flee yet again in search of safety. To mark World Refugee Day, the Norwegian Refugee Council USA (NRC USA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) illuminate how the pandemic complicates access to support and protection for refugees and internally displaced people in conflict-affected countries. Our panel likewise discusses the implications of the pandemic’s secondary effects within these contexts, proposing concrete solutions to this double crisis.
